Summary
The proposed workshop is to explain both in theory and in practice what business benefits does the combination of Business Process Management (BPM) and Semantic Web Services (SWS) bring. The first part of the workshop is devoted to the presentation of the state of the art in both areas of interest with special focus on Service Oriented Architecture paradigm in BPM, ontologies, formal languages and execution of processes together with discussion on business benefits from SWS-based solutions. The second part consists of the intensive hands-on session where knowledge from the first part will be applied.
Programme
1 Introduction and Theory
- Introduction to the technologies of the Semantic Web (Semantic Web Services, formal languages, reasoning, ontologies).
- Overview of Business Process Management, historic background, BPM lifecycle, modelling notations and usage within SOA paradigm.
- Integration of SWS and BPM as a solution to the BPM’s shortcomings.
2 Business Opportunities
- Presentation of benefits from utilisation of the presented approach together with exemplary solutions
3 Hands-On Session
Attendees will actively model and execute semantically described business processes and Web services with the introduced software.
The hands-on session will be conducted in groups of attendees (2-4) with guidance from the presenters. The use case scenario and tasks are defined in detailed instructions. The achieved results are discussed in the audience at intermediate checkpoints.
