Wednesday, 30th May 2007, 16.00h - 19.30h Siemens Forum Wien, Dietrichgasse 25, 1030 Vienna
Semantic technologies for the organization and access to unstructured data, integration of distributed information, human-machine interaction, and automation of information processes are research fields with strong economic potential. FIT-IT, the major Austrian research funding programme for information technology supports frontier research in the area of semantic systems and services in order to enable break-through innovations, as well as to enable international visibility of Austrian researchers in this field.
Well-established research institutes, R&D centers of multinational companies, as well as small and medium sized companies pave the way for Austria as a country of cutting edge research in the Web 2.0 / Web 3.0 arena.
Research for Success will present perspectives from business and academia on how new technology in the area of semantic systems and services will leverage long term business success. A special emphasis will be put on the co-operation between research, large companies and medium and small sized companies. A new funding model in FIT-IT makes this kind of collaboration even more attractive.
To support the exchange of views and opinions on state of the art research at the interchange between research institutions, industry, and small and medium sized companies, the event will include addresses by State Secretary Christa Kranzl of the Federal Ministry for Traffic, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT), Franz Geiger, member of the board of directors of Siemens AG Austria, Klaus Pseiner, head of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, Michael Brodie, chief scientist of Verizon IT, and Asunción Gómez-Pérez, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid.
It is a welcome coincidence that many international experts in the research fields addressed will be in Austria in the days following the FIT-IT event Research for Success: The 4th European Semantic Web Conference will take place from June 3th-7th, in Innsbruck, and the 1st European Semantic Technology Conference will be held in Vienna on May 31st and June 1st. These and other events like e.g. the TRIPLE-I conference in Graz from September 5th - 7th which will also host a European brokerage event for Semantic Systems and Services illustrate Austria's good position in this field, which has been supported by FIT-IT for the last four years.
